# Redline ยท Full Reference ## What is Redline? Redline by Simple Local Web is a website feedback tool. A client opens their website in Redline, marks what they want changed right on the live page, and every mark lands on Simple Local Web's to-do list. As each one is done it gets checked off, and the client sees that on the same page. - Web app: https://redline.simplelocalweb.com - Made by: Simple Local Web, https://simplelocalweb.com - Contact: hello@simplelocalweb.com - Built on: the open-source MarkLayer project, https://github.com/thevrus/MarkLayer (Apache-2.0) ## How it works 1. Open your website in Redline. It shows your site with a red pen on top, right in the browser. Nothing to install. 2. Mark what you want changed: circle it, point an arrow at it, highlight text, or pin a note. 3. Each mark goes on the list. Its status moves from open, to in progress, to resolved as the work is done. ## What you can mark up - Live webpages, loaded through Redline's server so they can be drawn on - PDFs and images, by link or by uploading a file up to 25MB - Up to 50 pages on one link, switched through tabs ## Comments Every note can carry a status (open, in_progress, resolved, approved, dismissed), a priority (low, medium, high, urgent), replies, and up to four image attachments. It also records the browser, screen size and operating system it was written on, which helps reproduce a problem. ## Sharing Anyone with a Redline link can open it. Several people can mark up the same page at once and see each other's marks live. Signing in is done with an emailed link, with no password. ## Data and retention Redline is hosted on Cloudflare (Workers, D1, Durable Objects, R2). Marks, comments and uploaded files are deleted 90 days after the page was last opened, and opening or commenting resets that clock. A link can also be given an earlier expiry. No analytics run on Redline. The endpoint is bound to its link, so it serves every tool below except marklayer_connect_room. For clients that only run local servers, use the upstream stdio package and point it at Redline: claude mcp add redline -e MARKLAYER_API_BASE=https://redline.simplelocalweb.com -- npx -y marklayer-mcp Tools: marklayer_connect_room, marklayer_room_info, marklayer_read_page, marklayer_list_annotations, marklayer_get_annotation, marklayer_get_feedback, marklayer_watch_annotations, marklayer_acknowledge, marklayer_resolve, marklayer_dismiss, marklayer_reply, marklayer_create_annotation, marklayer_suggest_edit, marklayer_share_preview, marklayer_set_next_steps, marklayer_complete_next_step, marklayer_ask. Typical loop: list what is open, watch for new marks, acknowledge each one before starting, make the change, then resolve it with a one-line summary. Dismiss with a reason when it cannot be acted on. approved is the one status an agent never sets: it is the person who asked for the change confirming the fix. The id you choose is the access token, so make it unguessable. POST https://redline.simplelocalweb.com/api/{id} Content-Type: application/json { "ops": [], "url": "https://example.com/page", "width": 1440, "expires_in": 2592000 } - ops (required): annotation operations. Pass [] for a blank page. - url (recommended): the page the link opens and overlays. - width (optional): reference viewport width in CSS pixels. 1440 is a safe default. - expires_in (optional): seconds until cleanup, max 2592000 (30 days). Omit it and the link is deleted 90 days after it was last opened. The link is then https://redline.simplelocalweb.com/s/{id}, or https://redline.simplelocalweb.com/s/{id}?readonly=1 for view only. To make many links, loop the POST with a fresh id per page.
